We are Bristol''s Volunteer Development Agency

Volunteering Bristol promotes, supports and develops opportunities for people to become involved in voluntary work.

We operate the Volunteer Centre based in Royal Oak House, Royal Oak Avenue in Bristol's city Centre. , Open for drop-in between 10 am and 12 noon and 12.30pm - 4.00pm Monday to Friday, you could also ring (0117 989 7733) for an appointment, or if you prefer, a more confidential interview can be arranged.

Volunteering Bristol is a Registered Charity and a Company Limited by Guarantee.

We have been working with volunteers for more than 40 years

We started out in 1966 as Service 9 - Bristol’s Centre for Young Volunteers. Our objective then was “To enable Young People to help and participate in the local community and in social development”. During its first five years Service 9 helped over 1300 young people to volunteer.

Over the years our development went through many stages. The kinds of projects we were involved in and the age-ranges of both our own volunteers and those we attracted to other organisations varied tremendously.

In 1979 ,we became an independent charity. By 1986 we obtained the status of a Limited Company.

In June 2000 we moved to our present premises in Royal Oak House. This ,move and our change of name to ‘Volunteering Bristol’ , enabled us to attract many more potential volunteers each year.

Two years later in October 2002 we were awarded the
‘Volunteer Development England Quality Mark’ in recognition of our meeting the criteria for Volunteer Development Agency Quality Accreditation. , The Quality Accreditation was re-awarded in 2006.

Today we offer 600 volunteering opportunities for around 400 voluntary and community organisations across Bristol.
